Wild Turkey "Longbranch"

Longbranch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey...Oak and Texas Mesquite Charcoal Refined...

The Russell / McConaughey collaboration whiskey.  I was skeptical from the moment I heard. I've never been sure about McConaughey. I loved Mickey Haller in "The Lincoln Lawyer," but I wanted to punch Benjamin Barry ("How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days") and Dallas ("Magic Mike") in his face(s). I've listened to some of McConaughey's YouTube motivational speeches, and I generally turn them off, unmotivated. Do I question his passion for bourbon? Of course not. Do I question the Russell's marketing scheme? No, not really. McConaughey is better than Mila Kunis or the boys from "Florida Georgia Line." But still, I was skeptical. Are Campari / Wild Turkey trying to pull one over on us? Is it worth $50 to find out? We're such suckers.

Longbranch
86 proof

Color: Medium bodied gold.

Nose: Not bad. On the sweet side. Sweet corn, sweet cream, sweet syrup. Some subtle smoke and toasty grain for balance.

Tasting Notes: Again, not bad! After all, we're talking about 8 year old Wild Turkey. The "refinement" through oak and mesquite adds some lively smoke and spice.

Overall: B+. Exceeded my expectations. Still not sure about McConaughey though.
