Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey

Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey is one of several rye offerings from the Bristol, PA based Mountain Laurel Spirits. The distillery also sells an unaged rye, a straight rye, and limited edition Bottled in Bond (which we're after). The Pennsylvania Rye reviewed here is 90 proof and six months old (aged in new, charred quarter casks) but has a very good reputation.

For a little PA rye whiskey history, check out my October 2015 post about the history of Michter's Distillery.

Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey

Grundy Mill Distillery/Mountain Laurel Spirits
90 proof
$40 MSRP

Color: Light amber.

Nose: Cereal grain, spicy rye, youthful new make, and funky sweetness.

Tasting Notes: Cereal grain, spicy rye, youthful new make, and funky sweetness. No, that's not a bad cut and paste job.

Overall: C+. Not awful, but I had higher hopes. I would absolutely love to try the straight and Bottled in Bond release, but the BiB is only available at the distillery. We'll report back to see what several more years in the oak can do to Dad's Hat.
