Noah's Mill and Rowan's Creek

Noah's Mill and Rowan's Creek are bourbons sourced by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, Ltd. (KBD), an independent bottling operation in Bardstown, KY. KBD is owned by the same folks behind the Willett Distillery. In addition to these two offerings, KBD bottles Willett Pot Still Reserve, the Johnny Drum lineup, Kentucky Vintage, Pure Kentucky XO, and the Old Bardstown bourbons.

Since 2012, Willett (after a several decade hiatus) has been distilling, aging, and bottling their own bourbon and rye whiskeys, which are very good. We reviewed their 2-Year-Old Willett Rye last year and recently purchased the 3-Year-Old Rye. Look out for tasting notes soon.
Noah's Mill

Kentucky Bourbon Distillers
114.3 proof
$50 at ABC in Salisbury, NC

Color: Dark amber.

Nose: Warm caramel sauce, red fruit, raisin, and barrel char. A gentle, but very pleasant aroma.

Tasting Notes: Wonderfully rich caramel, maple syrup, raisin, cinnamon spice, alcohol heat, and deeply charred oak. A medium finish is marked by oak and heat.

Overall: B+. If you like strong whiskey but prefer not to be blown away by 130+ proof monsters like Stagg, Jr., Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, or Barrell Bourbon, this may be for you.

Rowan's Creek

Kentucky Bourbon Distillers
100.1 proof
$40 at ABC in Salisbury, NC

Color: Medium amber.

Nose: I get barrel char, cinnamon, baking spice, lemon peel, and a subtle medicinal note.

Tasting Notes: Classic bourbon notes of oak, maple, caramel, and cinnamon up front. Chili pepper and youthful alcohol roll into a spicy, somewhat bitter finish.

Overall: B-. Close to being really great, but the medicinal element on the nose and the bitter finish overshadow the goodness.
