Belle Meade Bourbon Sherry Cask Finish

Belle Meade Bourbon Sherry Cask Finish is Nelson's Green Brier Distillery's first wood finish series release. It features 9 year old, high rye (30%) bourbon from their "Reserve stock" (sourced from MGP) aged in twenty year old Oloroso Sherry casks imported from Spain. It won "Best Special Barrel Finish Bourbon" at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

The only other bourbon finished in sherry that we know about is the ridiculously priced Jim Beam Distiller's Masterpiece finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. Chances are very low we're spending $250 on that. Later this week, we'll review the 2016 Belle Meade bourbon finished in cognac casks

Belle Meade Bourbon Sherry Cask Finish
90.4 proof
$79 at Green's Beverages in Columbia, SC

Color: Medium amber.

Nose: Sweet sweetness. Loads of caramel, creamy vanilla, red fruit, and strong raisin.

Tasting Notes: Rich mouthfeel and sweet like the nose. I get a lot of orange rind, red fruit, dry oak, and prickly rye spice. Medium finish.

Overall: B+. A really nice sipping bourbon. The Oloroso sherry influence asserts itself enough to make this a unique pour. It's well proofed and very drinkable.
