Michter's 10 Year Old Single Barrel Bourbon (2016)

This month, Michter's released its 2016 10 Year Old Single Barrel Bourbon. It was just November/December 2015 when last year's expression came out, but this remains an annual release as far as I know.

Like last year's 10 year old bourbon, it comes in at 94.4 proof. Our bottle features whiskey from Barrel No. 16B233. I drank this for the guys that have to place the tiny sticker on the neck indicating its barrel of origin. Cheers to them.

Color: Medium amber with orange/crimson shine.

Nose: Maple sugar and honey take center stage while wisps of cherry candy and syrupy root beer emerge with air.

Tasting Notes: Unlike the nose which is light and sweet, there is robust darkness on the palate, particularly on the back end. Classic caramel and vanilla notes are supplanted by charred oak, roasted nuts, and sweet tobacco. I get touches of resin and orange rind on the finish, which is medium and mellow.

Overall: B+. While the nose deceives the palate, each are very pleasant. This is a slow sipping whiskey and pairs perfectly with a medium bodied cigar.
